“Christian Potpourri” © is a monthly newsletter that un-apologetically focuses on Jesus Christ as “The Way, the Truth, and the Life” as found in God’s Holy Word, the Bible.

What is this newsletter?
Probably the name ‘newsletter’ doesn’t completely qualify, but it is ‘newsy’ at times, pulling headlines from current events and putting a Christian perspective on them. Christian Potpourri is made up of what could be called devotionals. All are true stories compiled of events from friends and family, and even stories about our animals. Yearly snail mail subscription is $12.00.

Actually I’m not sure you will be interested. But you might! If you browse around a little on the site here, you can get an idea of what the newsletter is like. If you want to request a free sample copy to be mailed to you, please email me at: ChristianPotpourri@hotmail.com

How did Christian Potpourri get started?
It wasn’t something I came up with, believe me!
I had sent in an article here and there to different magazines, all to no avail. I had even written a story about my husband and a rescue he helped with that hit national news. I was sure it would make it. Again, I received a polite, ‘thank you but no thank you’.

I was at a point in my life where I was really seeking God’s will for my life. I had come off a wonderful spiritual weekend called “The Walk to Emmaus” which had fueled my desire to serve God. After receiving these magazine rejections I wasn’t at all sure what I was supposed to be doing. So I just sat back and waited for God to move. And I waited some more.

At that time of my life I was working for a friend doing office work. One day I was going to Office Max to get some things for her. The traffic was backed up a little and I think I caught every red light. (I’m utterly convinced God does a lot at red lights. We have to be still for a little while.)

And being still can make us zone out. I know I do at red lights. So at one of those red lights, as I was zoning out, a thought dropped into my head, “You should write your own magazine.” “HUH?” That’s odd, I thought to myself. And I thought about it a little bit on the way to Office Max. Just a little. By the time I got out of my car and did my shopping at Office Max I had actually completely forgotten about the magazine thing. On the way home from Office Max I hit more red lights and I was ‘zoning out’ again. Out of the blue came another thought, “You can put a little bit of this in there, and a little bit of that. You can call it Christian Potpourri.”

“HUH?” Okay, I was going to have to sit up and pay attention now. This was just too strange.

My husband works overnights so when I got home he was sleeping. Not wanting to wake him, I called my Mother in Mississippi and told her about my trip to Office Max. When I reached the part about coming home from Office Max and what happened I said, “And, Mom, the thought came into my mind to put a little bit of this in it, and a little bit of that and name it………………”Before I could pop the words out of my mouth my Mom excitedly said, “I KNOW WHAT YOU CAN CALL IT! Christian Potpourri!!!”

Well, that did it. NOT to do it would be outright disobedience. An affirmation like that can’t be denied.

Beginning was scary. That was five years ago.

And over those years we’ve watched as God has used this newsletter to do things we’ve been able to see…and we’re pretty sure God has used it to do things we’ll never know about.

So now you know. And even if you don’t choose to subscribe, please remember to pray for us!

Thank you!
Mary
