Life According to Me, Part 2

Filed under: Stories — Mary @ 2:23 pm

It’s taken me a while to figure out what to say next. If you’ve read Life According to Me, Part 1, you’re probably wondering what shoved me back. I’ve debated what to write. Do I leave that part to your imagination, allow you to fill in the blanks as you see fit?

And if I do leave that part blank, how would you fill it in? Would you  fill it in with your circumstance? An illness? Spousal betrayal? Financial meltdown? A rebellious child? Or perhaps you haven’t had anything shove you back.  Perhaps you never will. But most of us at one time or another find ourselves standing at the center of our own universe as it fractures around us. Such was ours.

Ground Zero for the combustion was a rebellious child.  Shattered were all our ideas that if we do ‘A’ “B’, “C’ and “D” right, our planets would align forever. When the blast hit, I was shell shocked. It was like my own personal Pearl Harbor, a sneak attack, and I was one of the walking wounded, staggering around wondering what had happened and why.

As she drove up the street and away from us that day, we wondered if it was forever. For us it was the rebellious child. (This is written with her full permission.)
